So, am I the only one who thinks movies and dinner are such a boring, routine, overplayed first date? When a couple goes to the movies, they can't speak to each other, get to know each other, and it leaves them no closer to finding out who their crush is. Isn't that the whole point? And going out to dinner never works for me for a date; I have IBS, and eating heavy foods leads to severe stomach cramps and stomach aches. So I’ve comprised a list of things that I think would be fun for a first date, different ideas that involve just you two talking and getting to know each other!
Now, okay, if you know me, you’d know that I. Hate. Fishing. I hate the idea of sitting in a boat and trying to hook worms on a hook to catch fish. I blame it on my grandfather, who would constantly try to take my fishing for bonding. I was a girly-girl; fishing was my worst enemy. But for someone who’s outdoorsy, fishing as a first date would be great! The two of you are on a boat, forced to maintain conversation and actually share—unlike going to the movies, where you must be silent. So go with it, try something new, and have fun!
Go on a hike
If you’re super outdoorsy, going on a hike for your first date would be perfect! You’re exercising, which is really good in and of itself, and a lot of people don’t want to exercise by themselves. You don’t have to do a flat out run—“ew, he can’t see me sweat!”—but it gives you plenty of time to get to know each other and see their true side!
THIS. This is my favorite. Because, seriously, people watching is so fun. Take you and your date to a populated area—bookstore, community park, restaurant—and just come up with different story ideas for the people you see. Challenge yourself with how creative you can be! (This is a really fun idea when you’re looking to mix up your characters for writing!)
Go on a scavenger hunt
This one can require a bit of preplanning, and even a third person if you yourself want to be surprised as well, but it’s super fun and different when it comes to a first date. You can plan to find some things around town, get to know your date as you search for your list of things. And it can be landmarks, hidden rocks, or really anything your heart desires!
You may not be creative. That’s okay. Your date might not be creative. That’s okay. You’re not trying to be the next Picasso, or even try to paint anything serious. But sitting down together and painting your canvas is really relaxing. And, let’s face it, you’re going to be nervous for your first date. But just have fun with it! Challenge each other to use only two color, only one brush, paint with your eyes closed. And at the end of the date, the two of you each have a canvas to remember your time together by!
So there you have it! There are five unique first date ideas you could do with your crush. Are there any of them that you’ve done before, or can see yourself doing? Do you have any more unique first date ideas to add? Leave them in the comments below!
